Tooth Whitening by your Dentist

Many patients who come to us for implant treatment can benefit from incorporating a course of tooth whitening into their treatment plan. Final results can be enhanced by this simple procedure and we thoroughly recommend that tooth whitening is discussed as a part of a patient’s treatment options, before they are referred to the centre.

The optimal time for tooth whitening in conjunction with dental implant treatment, is after surgery during the eight to twelve weeks healing period before the implant is ready to be restored.

Our surgeons always ask suitable patients after implant surgery if they wish to consider tooth whitening. They will explain to the patient the benefits and the limited risks, so that if they wish to consider it, they can request the treatment from their referring dentist.

Our recommended tooth whitening technique is ‘night time’ tooth whitening. A simple alginate impression is taken and trays are made. We recommend that 10% carbamide peroxide is used, and that it is worn for a minimum of three hours either at night or during the day.
